What this tool does
A contact list is a saved grouping of contacts in EngageBay — typically built for a specific campaign, segment, or ongoing audience. It's a different concept from a tag: a tag is a label you can attach to any contact at any time, while a list is a defined membership, usually built once and referenced repeatedly.
list_contact_lists returns every list on the account along with how many contacts belong to each. It takes no parameters — it always returns the full set of lists.
Lists and tags aren't interchangeable. If a request mentions a named list rather than a tag — for example, “the Q3 Newsletter list” rather than “contacts tagged newsletter” — this is the tool to check, not list_tags.
What you can ask
“What contact lists do we have?”
“How many contacts are on the Q3 Newsletter list?”
“Do we have a list for webinar signups, separate from the tag?”
Related tools
list_tags— the equivalent lookup for tags, which work differently from lists.search_contactsandget_crm_objects— look contacts up by name, email or tag. This tool returns the lists and how many contacts are in each, not who is in them.
