Find companies with a free-text keyword — a name, a website, an email domain, or a fragment of one — when you don't have a structured condition to filter on, just something you remember about the company.

What this tool does
search_companies is a simple keyword search across companies — it looks across name, website, email, and other indexed fields for whatever you type, the way a search box in an app would. It's the right tool when you're starting from a company name, a partial website address, or a domain, rather than from a specific condition.
For anything structured — no website on file, created in a date range, a custom field value — use search_crm_objects instead. The two are complementary: this one is for “I remember something about this company but not a condition”; search_crm_objects is for “I know exactly what I'm filtering on.”
What you can ask
“Find the company Acme Corp.”
“Is there a company with a website containing 'acme'?”
“Look up the company associated with the domain acme.io.”
